Petra and Tobi are gone, they are attending a wedding in Lima...
So Severin and I are on our way to a mountain with many names, Rainbow Mountain, Cerro Siete Colores, Winicunca.
The tours for Winicunca start at 03:30 a.m. which definitely isn't my time. Then we sat in the bus for 2h until we reached Pitumarca where we had breakfast. Shoot, that place was cold. The breakfast room only had holes for windows and again, not my thing... Afterwards we drove for another hour to the starting point of the tour at 4480m.
All those who didn't want to do the 500m ascend could rent a horse :)
It started out nice and easy but it was really cold in the shadow...
Further up we'd warmed up and the sun did its best as well.
After about 1.5h we'd reached the top at about 5080m. However, there was a fierce wind blowing but that didn't affect the awesome view :)
Good thing Severin and I were quite fast so didn't have to share the view point with a million people :)
Afterwards we went on to Valle Rojo. Surprisingly most tours don't go there or only go to the view point! If they only knew what they missed out on ;)
The way through the Valle Rojo was very beautiful but also quite long and included a 800m descend.
Around 03:00 p.m. we finally had lunch, again in Pitumarca. We got a tasty buffet with local dishes, excellent.
Shortly after 06:00 p.m. we were back in Cusco, what a long and beautiful day :)
Unfortunately I can't upload GPX-Files, not even if I rename them. So if anyone would like to see the tracks of the last few days just let me know ;)
And finally I'm fed up with all the cold weather here!!! Wednesday I'm off to Columbia to enjoy the beach and sun there :D
The Vinicunca mountain has become one of the most visited natural tourist destinations in Peru, which is why the municipality of Cusipata opened a new access route to the rainbow mountain. https://www.tourvinicuncaperu.com/
